Conscription – a high flying kite
Everywhere the United States military has been in the last hundred years has caused ruin and destruction: Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and Chile to name a few. I see a kite flying high. The battle to prepare young people for the killing fields of the future has begun: A Call to Action: Lessons from Ukraine for the Future Force. Ian Curr, Ed., 18 Sept 2023.

The Russia-Ukraine War is exposing significant vulnerabilities in the Army’s strategic personnel depth and ability to withstand and replace casualties. Army theater medical planners may anticipate a sustained rate of roughly 3,600 casualties per day, ranging from those killed in action to those wounded in action or suffering disease or other non-battle injuries (my emphasis)”
Where do they get this figure from? Obviously from the current war, and that is a truly horrifying thought
It is obvious (to the authors) that the present volunteer army cannot sustain such casualties and their answer is to bring back conscription.
Rough times ahead for young people.
