Nobel Peace prize for Palestinian journalists

Most mornings when I open my tablet, I see these brave souls and their colleagues reporting from Gaza. Without them, we would know little of the genocide of the Palestinians because of the exclusion of international media from Palestine … I do not regard journalism as a particularly noble profession, especially when you see Australian journalists on the evening news on current affairs programs voicing Israeli narratives. However these people (pictured) and their colleagues are an exception.

Photojournalist Motaz Azaiza, TV reporter Hind Khoudary, journalist and activist Bisan Owda, and veteran reporter Wael Al-Dahdouh have all been nominated for the Nobel Prize for their work during the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Bisan Owda, a 25-year-old journalist, who reports from the genocide in Gaza, was nominated for her documentary It’s Bisan from Gaza and I’m Still Alive, in the Outstanding Hard News Feature Story category. Her film was selected from over 50 entries in one of the year’s most competitive categories.

On social media, Motaz Azaiza shared: “I’ve been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for providing the world with a glimpse into the atrocities in Gaza. Wish me luck and I hope my people will get peace now. Free Palestine.”

More than 130 Palestinian journalists and media professionals have been murdered by the Israeli armed forces in Gaza since October 7. At least 30 of them were killed while they were reporting. Another three Lebanese journalists have been murdered by the Israelis.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) attributes this “unusually high” rate of murders to the deliberate targeting of journalists by Israeli forces during military operations in the region.
