Massive controversy erupted in 2006 when Rabbi Colonel Eyal Karim said it was permitted for soldiers to rape Gentile women. As a condition of becoming the IDF’s chief rabbi he retracted his words but was supported by 150 rabbis who claimed his views were legitimate Torah.
There is a long history of rape by the IDF {tinyurl.Com/Rape-Epidemic-in-Israel) and even an entry in David Ben Gurion’s diary dated August 9, 1949, in which 20 soldiers led by a lieutenant colonel raped and killed a Bedouin girl.
Recently, the New York Times reported on anal rape and torture in the Sde Teiman interrogation centre. Eight former inmates described how they were forced to sit 18 hours a day in diapers and were beaten if they fell asleep . Younis al-Hamlawi, was lifted onto a metal rod which penetrated his anus causing immense pain.
Heated rods and electric batons were also used causing at least one death; 35 have died at the hands of their Israeli torturers who were rounded up and held in custody. Throngs of angry protesters, including politicians, stormed the base and released them (Times of Israel, 19/9/2024).
Despite the mountain of evidence of rape, torture, infanticide, genocide and now, in another blatant violation of international law when communication devices exploded injuring thousands, Australia abstained from the UN vote calling for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine.
Penny Wong said it was “disappointing” that 124 nations supported it. Australia is complicit with Israeli genocide!
