The United Nations Security Council has just announced that it is imposing sanctions on Iran but has not imposed sanctions on nuclear armed and genocidal Israel. The Security Council just can’t get this right. Iran agreed to a ceasefire with Israel in the recent war even though Iran had the upper hand with more drones and Cruise missiles, while Israel was running out of defensive weapons.
The Security Council is on the wrong side of history and has been responsible for allowing the genocide to be committed in full view in Gaza.
There have been a number of comments recently about the Beijing declaration alleged support for the two-state solution in Palestine. I don’t read the Beijing declaration that way . I think it is important to look at why the Chinese government would want to have the genocide in Gaza shut down from their own self-interest.
China gets a lot of oil from the Arabian Gulf. Uninterrupted trade in oil has been made impossible because Yemen has shut down the Straits of Hormuz. The United States Navy has been unable to reopen the Straits and so big international shipping companies have been going the long way round. While there is an ongoing possibility of an Israeli Iran war, China is adversely affected.
The political dynamics in Italy 🇮🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸 have led to naval ships being deployed to accompany the sumud flotilla, now only six or so days from the beaches of Gaza. The number of boats in the flottilla has been steadily increasing . I believe there are now over 70 craft involved in this humanitarian mission.
